External Funding Aids
The Student Financial Aid Section is continuously seeking adequate financial support to accommodate the increasing number of students facing financial difficulties to complete their university education. In this context, Qatar University, represented by the Student Financial Aid Section, has sought to coordinate with a number of the most important institutions concerned with providing financial aid to students through the signing of agreements and memorandums of understanding with Qatar Charity, Education Above All Foundation (Al Fakhoora Programme), the Social Development Center (Nama), and Jassim and Hamed Bin Jassim Charitable Foundation.
“Dynamic Futures Qatar” Project
Education Above All Foundation’s mission is to measurably improve access to high quality education for vulnerable and marginalised people in developing countries. During 2018, Qatar University and Education Above All Foundation establish a cooperation agreement to start a project called “Dynamic Future Qatar” under the supervision of Al Fakhoora Program. It is one of Education Above All Foundation’s programs. This project provides scholarship for eligible students that support 100% of the students’ University Fees (Tuition fees - Book fees – Transportation fees).
Eligibility Criteria:
- Between the age of 17 and 25.
- The applicant has to finish his/her high school in Qatar.
- Have already been accepted by Qatar University to study the bachelor degree as per the QU approved Admission criteria.
- Only new students can apply for the program; current students are not eligible to apply.
- Pursuing a degree aligned with the country’s future market needs that will be determined by EAA before the start of each academic year. (Academic Year 2019 - 2020: Engineering, Law, Accounting, and Medicine).
- Are currently not receiving a scholarship.
- The student has an accumulative GPA of 2.50 and above.
- The average per capita income should not exceed QR 5000 of the total salary of the guardian.
- The applicant must be registered during the semester in order to apply and benefit from this program according to the study plan period.
- The duration of the scholarship program decided based on the study plan for the selected students.
- The program supports 100% of the students’ University Fees (Tuition fees - Book fees – Transportation fees).
- This program pays for the summer semester fees.
- Fees do not include a fine of a course or a semester withdrawal.
- The student should have evaluation meeting with the Education Above All Foundation (Al Fakhoora) representatives and sign Project student contract and confidentiality undertaking form, if got selected.
- Selected students should take part in trainings and workshops above and beyond their core studies, as well as participate in regular follow up meetings with the Education Above All Foundation (Al Fakhoora) representatives. (Each semester students will be provided with 2 training/workshops)
Required Documents
The following documentation is necessary to be attached with application to verify the information provided regarding the items of household income and expenses and overall eligibility:
- Signed Undertaking: Each applicant must sign a consent form, allowing EAA to access and confirm private information of the family.
- Support request written by the applicant or the family guardian, explaining the family’s financial situation and the reason why they have applied for this scholarship.
- Copy of Valid QID for parents and all dependents residing in the household.
- Copy of the Passport for parents and all dependents residing in the household.
- Copy of the Birth certificate for all the children residing in the household.
- Original Salary certificate of all working members residing in the household.
- Copy of the Establishment card of the employer in case of a private company.
- Termination letter (if the guardian has been recently terminated).
- Copy of the Death certificate if the father/guardian is deceased.
- Copy of the Court papers if the mother is divorced and is the guardian.
- Copy of the Court documentation if the father/guardian is involved in a case or in custody, preventing the family from renewing QIDs or causing financial barriers.
- Copy of medical report ONLY if the parent is not working due to medical reasons.
- Copy of medical reports of family members ONLY in case medical condition incurs cost on a regular basis.
- Original bank statements for all bank accounts of all employed persons residing in the household for the last six months.
- Original Credit Bureau report for all employed persons residing in the household.
- Original bank account closing letter if there is any mention of closed accounts in the credit bureau report.
- Copy of the Residence rental contract OR rent payment receipt vouchers for last 3 months.
- Last three bills from Kahrama if utilities are paid separately from rent (Kahrama number in case of unavailability of bills).
- Letter from employer or sponsor if accommodation and utilities are provided.
- Letter from the University for any dependents enrolled at a university, confirming the student’s enrollment at the university, his/her program of study, and the tuition fee per semester.
- Passport size photo of the applicant.
- Copy of high school certificate issued by a school in state of Qatar.
University student support program (Tamkeen)
This program aims to enable university students who are financially disrupted to continue their university education by providing adequate financial support in covering the full tuition fees. This is done with the coordination and distribution of roles between the Student Financial Aid Section, the Social Development Center, and the student benefiting from this service according to a specific mechanism agreed upon.
Educational Loans Program
This program contributes to the replacement of the culture of aid by borrowing with re-payment to build a culture of giving to the individual rather than dependency, and help the largest number of students who need educational loans to complete their university studies. This is done with the coordination and distribution of roles between the Student Financial Aid Section, the Social Development Center, and the student benefiting from this service according to a specific mechanism agreed upon.
Conditions for applying for these programs:- Be born in Qatar or has a period of residence in Qatar not less than five years.
- The accumulative GPA should be 2.00 and above for the active students who have GPA.
- The average per capita income should not exceed QR 3000 of the total salary of the guardian (without consideration of the various debts and obligations).
- The student must be registered during the semester in order to qualify for this aid.
- The duration of the application is one semester, after which the student must update his data through the online application and submit the required documents to study his condition again.
- The same student may benefit from the service for more than one semester, but should not exceed the study plan for the student's field of study.
- The Financial Aid programs provided by the Social Development Center (Nama) support students 100% of the University Fees (tuition fees - book fees).
- These programs do not include financial aid in paying the summer semester fees.
- Fees do not include the fee of a course or a semester withdrawal, fail, drop and add.
- The student should visit the office of the Social Development Center (Nama) to sign the student sponsorship agreement with them because of its association with social work and performance during the period of obtaining financial aid.
Required Documents:
- A recent certificate that does not exceed three months stating the salary of the guardian in detail.
- A copy of the ID card or residence (for non-Qataris) for the student, guardian and family members who do not work as stated in the application form.
- In case of a non-working guardian: A bank statement for the last 3 months + Certificate from the Qatar Credit Bureau that reports on the bank accounts of the guardian in the country.
- Birth certificate if the student was born in the State of Qatar or proof of residence of the student in the State of Qatar for a period of not less than five years.
- The Committee may request any additional documents indicating the financial condition of the student or his / her family.
Program of financial rewards for academically distinguished Qatari students with low income (Rewards)
This program aims to provide QR 5000 per term as financial rewards to a number of financially challenged but academically distinguished Qatari students. It aims to motivate Qatar University students to do more and to create a spirit of competition to continue their excellence through providing adequate financial support to help them provide their university and non-university financial needs.
Conditions for applying for this program:
- The applicant must be a Qatari national.
- The average per capita income of the student's family should not exceed QR 6000 of the total salary of the guardian (after deduction of the government sponsored and funded housing loan, retirement pension, and personal loans).
- The student's accumulative GPA is 3.5 and above, and will stop receiving it if the GPA goes below that.
- The student must be registered during the semester in order to qualify for this reward.
- The student can take advantage of the service for more than a semester, but should not to exceed the study plan.
- The student does not receive the financial reward more than once in the academic year.
Required Documents:
- A recent certificate that does not exceed three months stating the salary of the guardian in detail (the amount of the pension deduction must be stated in the certificate).
- A certificate from the concerned bank indicating the student's bank account number.
- The possibility of bringing a certificate from Qatar Development Bank or a bank statement of the applicant's guardian that shows the amount of monthly discounts related to the government sponsored and funded housing loan granted to Qatari nationals, if any.
- Certificate of indebtedness from the bank, showing the monthly installment of bank loans to the guardian. (If any)
- A copy of the ID card of the student and family members who do not work as stated in the application form.
- In the case of a formerly non-working guardian in government or private agencies: A certificate from the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs showing the unemployment of the guardian in the country + a bank statement for last 3 months + a certificate from the Qatar Credit Bureau stating the bank accounts of the guardian in the country.
- The Committee may request any additional documents indicating the financial condition of the student or his / her family.
Financial Aid Program for Non-Qatari Students (University Student Support)
This program is intended to provide a financial aid per term to non-Qatari low-income students. It aims to help this category of students complete their university education by providing appropriate financial support to help them pay their tuition fees.
Conditions for applying for this program:
- The student has an accumulative GPA of 2.50 and above.
- The average per capita income should not exceed QR 1000 of the total salary of the guardian (after deduction of the personal debts and house rent).
- The student must be registered during the semester in order to qualify to apply for this program.
- This program is intended to cover 100% of tuition fees only.
- This programs do not include financial aid for the summer semester fees.
- Fees do not include the fee of a course or a semester withdrawal.
- Fees covered do not include any accumulative fees from previous semesters.
- The same student may benefit from the service for more than one semester, but should not exceed the study plan for the student's field of study.
- The duration of the application is one semester, after which the student must update his data through the online application and submit the required documents to study his condition again.
Required Documents:
- A copy of the ID card or residence for the student, guardian and family members who do not work as stated in the application form.
- A recent certificate that does not exceed three months stating the salary of the guardian or the student, if working, in detail (the amount of the deductions related to any debts from the employer must be stated in the certificate).
- A bank statement for the last 6 months for the guardian or the student, if working.
- A certificate from the Qatar Credit Bureau that reports on the bank accounts in the country for the guardian or the student, if working.
- A certificate of indebtedness from the bank, showing the monthly installment of bank loans to the guardian or the student, if working. (If any)
- A work contract authenticated by Ministry of Administrative Development, Labor and Social Affairs for the guardian or the student if working in private company. (In the case of a formerly non-working guardian, bring a non-working certificate letter from the current employer).
- A valid rent contract (in case there is rent payment by the guardian).
- In case of guardian imprisonment, bring any document that proves it.
- In the case of an insolvent debt, the relevant legal provisions may be brought, if any.
- A death certificate in case of deceased guardian.
- The Committee may request any additional documents indicating the financial condition of the student or his / her family.
Educate a Student Program, launched in 2015, aims at raising the levels of students who are joining the university, but suffer from financial difficulties that stand against continuing their university education. It strives to develop the individual and social outcomes of these students by collecting donations that contribute to paying fees for foundation and undergraduate students.
Donors can contribute by donating 30000 QR for a full academic year per student, or for one term. The donation amount is unlimited and is up to the donor. The donated amount can be paid through Qatar Charity Donation Offices, e-Donation site, or Qatar Charity mobile application.
