Call for papers: International Conference onIslamic Economics and the Question of Development: Critical and Innovative Analyses
February 8, 2020This conference aims to attract scholarly and practical ideas related to the development of Islamic economics in its various fields, including finance, investment, Takaful insurance, financial markets as well as its different structures such as portfolios, investment funds, endowments, and topics in Zakat. In light of this industry’s growth and the wide range of opportunities in the modern era, the question arises as to how best implement a continuous process of renewal and development in the various institutions of Islamic economics. The general complaint at this stage is the rigidity of legislation pertaining to the activities of these institutions, and that the tools of Islamic economics are overly formal, causing them to be less practical. Hence, this conference is not meant for descriptive and analytical studies, but rather, for studies that have critical and innovative visions based on practical elements that are aimed at developing the industry, institutions as well as the wide range of fields in Islamic economics. The conference seeks to attract the critical and innovative ideas to develop the Islamic economics in various fields according to the following topics:
- Contemporary Islamic Financial Markets: This topic deals with the critical studies directed to the problems facing the theoretical and practical components of the various products in the financial markets.
- Contemporary Applications of Islamic Endowments and Zakat: This topic deals with the issues related to the contemporary application of Islamic endowments and Zakat with regards to matters of governance and institutional distribution, and in terms of the jurisprudential views related to these concepts.
- Islamic Banking and Insurance: This topic addresses the problems, obstacles, prospects and risks associated with Islamic banking, whether at the level of governance, financial instruments, banking services, Takaful insurance, or reinsurance structures.
Submission Guidelines and Conditions:
- Deadline to submit the abstract is July 1, 2019
- The abstract should be between 300-400 words and must be sent via email to events.ibnkhadon@qu.edu.qa
- The research must be academic in nature and should critically or innovatively analyze one of the aforementioned topics
- The research must not have been previously published elsewhere, and the author gives the right to the Ibn Khaldon Center to publish the full paper
- A brief biography of the author(s) including research specialization, affiliation, and scientific publications in no more than 200 words
- Acceptance of the abstract by the committee does not necessitate acceptance of the research paper
- The Ibn Khaldon Center will cover the costs for accommodation and airfare
Objectives of the Conference:
- The evaluation of products and tools of Islamic economics in its various sectors
- The rationalization and principles of legislation and governance related to the sectors of Islamic economics and the its various institutions and fields
- To provide an academic platform that brings together academic researchers and specialists in Islamic economics
- To provide a platform for researchers to present their ideas on the finest innovations that contribute to the development of Islamic economics
- To open new research horizons for postgraduate students in the fields of economics, administration, law and Sariah
- To keep pace with the efforts of the State of Qatar to promote the development of Islamic economics
- To strengthen and implement the relations and partnership between Qatar University and the institutions of Islamic economics, both in Qatar and the Muslim world
